I think for the simmer, the day Sims 4 Patch update comes out is the most annoying day there is. At least for those who use or create mods and custom content.

So, what I recommend doing is, wait to update your Sims 4 game until mod creators have updated their mods to work with the patch updates.

But for most of us, every time we hit play on The Sims 4 icon, it starts updating on its own, so let’s change that.

  1. Turn off automatic updates. Go to Origin -> Application Settings -> (scroll down to) Client update -> turn off Automatic game updates.
(I’ve turned off auto-updates for Origin as well but in this case, I think it’s irrelevant)
  2. Go Offline. If you’re still in online-mode, Origin won’t let you open The Sims 4 because the update is required. The workaround for that is to go offline-mode.
Go to Origin -> Go offline
  3. Open The Sims 4. Now go to My Game Library and open your game like normal and play until Sims 4 Studio and all the mods and custom content that are broken get fixed.

  4. BONUS TIP! If you hadn’t turned off auto-updates yet, and the game starts updating, just cancel the update and then turn off auto-updates.
To cancel the update, go to the lower-left corner, click on The Sims 4, and then on the little X to cancel the update.
